Managing Your Personal Food Supply
Published in Hardcover by Rodale Press (February, 1977)
Author: Ray Wolf
Average review score:

Great book for promoting self-reliance in our food
This is a great book which I would recommend every gardener, farmer, or citizen interested in their ability to produce their own food read. It is well laid out, with lots of great pictures and illustrations of useful tools and tricks for gardening. Mr. Wolf does a great job of addressing the holistic nature that our food supply should represent, from seed to the table, and back again. It also includes a useful section on companion planting and plant compatability, something I find many garden books lacking. It also does a good job of showing why being able to know the contents of our food is important, and what we are missing becasue of this. Even discussion with the problems of bleached whole-wheat flour is well written. Whether you are a first time gardener just trying your thumb out, or a seasoned planter, this is a book I would have on hand. I also enjoy the slightly earlier gardening perspective, as there is more of an awareness of the whole biosystem of food production, not just the simple how to's. There's also some nice gems of more obscure info that is lost in many of today's books, but I guess you'll have to read this book to find out. Get this book if nothing else (Complete Book of Composting is also good!) Long live gardens.

The single most complete manual of photography!

Customer VALUE management nails it!
As an MBA professor, author, and customer service consultant, I had the opportunity to review early drafts of Ray's excellent book. This is a gem. It nails the importance of building customer VALUE. It ties together a rationale for company efforts to serve, satisfy, and create loyalty with the customers who determine the success of the business. The writing is clear and straightforward and the content invaluable for any business person interested in boosting the bottom line (and who isn't?)

Congratulations to Ray and Janice for offering an excellent addition to our field of knowledge. I highly recommend this book.

Medical Complications During Pregnancy
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders (15 April, 1999)
Authors: Gerard N. Burrow, Thomas P. Duffy, and Ray Kersey
Average review score:

Let's make obstetrics a bigger world
I first read from this book, when I need updated information for a case with thrombocytopenia associated with pregnancy. I was amazed by the way how the authors characterized any medical field implied in pregnancy management. Therefore I decided to buy it, and now I'm sure that is a valuable asset for my personal library. Beside the specific aspects of medical complications (like cardiovascular, hematological, endocrinological or infectious diseases) I was able to find also systematized, new information about management of the high risk pregnancy, medical emergencies, substance abuse or clinical genetics. It is a very useful book either for anyone who wants to improve his knowledge with new information about medical aspects of pregnancy but also for obstetricians, even if they've already got the previous editions, because they could raise theirs practice to higher levels.

Authors: David S. Solomon, Daniel Woodbeck, Ray Rankins, Jeffrey R. Garbus, and Bennett Wm. McEwan
Average review score:

This book can take you from beginner to expert.
Presumming you know something about SQL and NT. This book combined, with MSSQL's ease of use, provides a powerfull combination of escorting someone with limited Data Base Administration knowledge to a running and functioning data base. Each knowledge step from installation to using the installed PUBS data base is described in precise detail. The authors right on. "Bon voyage" By contrast, Oracle Unleashed, from the same publisher is the antithesis of Microsoft SQL Server Unleashed.

The Mighty Thor: The Ballad of Beta Ray Bill
Published in Paperback by Marvel Books (May, 1990)
Authors: Walter Simonson, Tom Defalco, and Stan Lee
Average review score:

Simonson is the Real Thundergod!
In the mid eighties, Walt Simonson redefined the mythos of one of marvel's greatest heroes: the mighty Thor. Revamping the flagging series with not only exceptional artwork and dynamic frame-sets, Simonson brought Thor back to the roots of Norse mythology and legend. Simonson's epic storyline concludes with a fantastic spin on Ragnarok (the final battle of the gods)and ties up every loose end since the beginning of the series' run. The Ballad of Beta Ray Bill collects the first few issues of this amazing moment in comics' history. It is well worth reading for any serious comics fan, fantasy/sci-fi artist or mythological affectionado.

Bill's tragic, yet mighty Ballad is one the coolest stories I've ever read. It's been 14 years since I read it and it still inspires my own work in the computer game field. Thanks Walt. You're the man!

REVIEW QUOTES
This historic and unique collection of contemporary Chicano fiction features not only established figures such as Sandra Cisneros, Rudolpho Anaya, Denise Chavez and Ana Castillo, but a vanguard of exciting new writers such as Daniel Romero, Patricia Blanco, Ana Baca and others.

"...a wonderful collection whose strenght is increased by the uniform quality of the stories and the fine writing throughout." --The British Bulletin

"Virtually every notable Chicano prose fiction writer is represented in the anthology." --World Literature Today

"Thirty-one stories cover territory on both sides of the border, and show Mexican-American writers rooted in the culture on both sides of the hyphen...but the selections also expand predictable horizons...perhaps the best of recent compilations of Chicano (and Latino) fiction." --Kirkus Reviews
